10 Games I Play with My Dad

Game 1: The Door Guardian

The Door Guardian

What you need to play

  • Parent and child
  • An open door between two rooms

Objective

The child must pass through the "Door Guardian" (the parent) and reach the other side of the door, overcoming the physical challenges created by the guardian.

Game rules

  • The door must always be open, as the goal of the game is to cross to the other side.
  • The parent positions themselves as a creative barrier between the door frame. They can stand, sit, lie down, sit in lotus position, cross their legs, or even stand on their head (if they're flexible and brave enough!).
  • With each new round, the parent should change position to make the challenge more interesting and fun.
  • In the easy level, the guardian doesn't move. In more advanced phases, they can move an arm or leg to make crossing more difficult — but they can never grab the child.
  • The child can try to crawl, climb, squeeze through, but can't tickle the guardian (that breaks the magic of the game!).
  • The game has no winner — the important thing is to laugh, challenge yourself, and cross to the other side with style and creativity.
